Frienisberg plateau

The Weilerlandschaft am Frienisbergplateau, located in the Canton of Bern at the immediate border of the city of Berne, is experiencing significant urbanization pressure, leading to loss of agricultural areas. Despite this, there is a strong effort to preserve the distinctive rural landscape and unique settlement structure of small hamlets, supported by an established intercommunal expert commission for Baukultur. Initial discussions have identified key Baukultur challenges related to maintaining the sense of place, including avoiding a blurred traditional architecture and settlement structure, preserving the transition zone between hamlets and farmland, and establishing an ecological infrastructure within and outside the settlements.
